How to install a Skylight Calendar flush on the wall and hide the cord

As a busy family moving into a busy phase of life where we are now juggling school schedules, sports practices, and activities, we are always looking for ways to improve our efficiency and organization. I have always been a paper planner enthusiast, but it was falling short for coordination in world where everything is emailed to us. My husband has been intrigued by the skylight calendar for a while now, and while I appreciate the automation it would provide our family I wasn’t keen on a screen distracting us in my kitchen. When skylight released this brass frame edition, I caved and purchased one.

Installing the Skylight calendar flush with a hidden cord

I quickly changed my tune and was really excited to install it immediately but we quickly ran into a problem. I wanted to install the skylight calendar flush on the wall with the cord hidden. The original plan was to install a recessed outlet behind it to eliminate the visible cord and outlet entirely. However, the block of the skylight cord was larger than all of the recessed outlets available.

Finding a recessed outlet

I used this as an opportunity to teach my boys about 3d printing! I found this 3D printing file and sent it to our local public library that has a 3D printer. We went and watched the print finish up and returned our overdue library books – all while talking about how all problems are solve-able.

Another solution that a follower on IG sent me was this cable box . It appears that is compatible in size with the skylight plug.

Both of these solutions appear to work really well for the large 27″ skylight calendar, where the larger mount can install right on top of these boxes. However, our specific brass skylight is the smaller 15″ size So we mounted the the bracket right next to the recessed outlet, being sure the screen would cover the box and hid it.

We have gifted many of our family members the skylight photo frames, and they all have them set on tables or counters. But this solution would be a great way to also hang those up on the wall like a wall hung photo.
